Dr Seuss's The Cat in the Hat

2 Oct 2018 (Tue)

Great Lake Centre, 5 Story Place, Taupo, Lake Taupo

Two bored kids. One rainy day. And one crazy cat wearing a red-striped hat.
In 1957, Theodor Seuss Geisel used this formula and only 200 words to write his second children's book as Dr. Seuss. More than 50 years later, The Cat in the Hat is a much-loved children's literature classic and now a zany, imaginative play coming to Taupo on October 2. The play was adapted for the stage in 2009 by the National Theatre of Britain.

The Cat in The Hat interrupts this rainy afternoon with his unexpected visit to Sally and her brother's cosy home. Their outspoken and outraged pet Fish is astounded and concerned, but this cat will not be deterred. He will teach us all to make our own fun with nothing but a little imagination.

"It's fun to have fun, but you have to know how." Along with Thing One and Thing Two, the cat will fill the theatre with mischievous humour and madcap style. Young and old alike will delight in this faithful adaptation of a classic book come to life before our very eyes. Spoiler alert: Things run amuck, and quickly.

Jesus Christ Superstar

9 Oct 2018 (Tue) - 13 Oct 2018 (Sat)

Great Lake Centre, 5 Story Place, Taupo, Lake Taupo

Centre Stage Taupo is proud to bring a modern take on Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1970s rock opera to life in Taupo's Great Lake Centre this October.
The story of the final days in the life of Jesus Christ is told through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. As the radical teachings of Jesus are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity and explosive theatrics. Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

With a large cast of talented locals and under the professional direction of Wendy Revell, this is a show not to be missed.

Tickets on sale from 28 August.

Then the lights to go down and it's time to enjoy the films. There was a splendid mix of horror, gore, comedy, suspense, drama and spine chilling spookiness. Something for all tastes.
