Sustainability at Sacred Waters

Sacred Waters Luxury Apartments, Taupo takes its commitment to minimize the impact it has on the environment very seriously. We are continually exploring Energy Saving Opportunities and investigating ways we can run in a more energy efficient way. Our aim is to reduce our energy use by 3% every year to do our part for Climate Change.

Sacred Waters fully understands its responsibility to minimize its impact on the environment and is committed to this at all levels of the business.

HOT WATER

Sacred Waters uses Geothermal energy which supplies all our domestic hot water / under floor heating and swimming pool water supply.

ELECTRICITY

We keep lighting in all public areas to a minimum overnight except for emergency lighting.

Lighting in most apartments has been converted to LED lighting, which will reduce energy output from 40w to 4w per fixture.

Lighting in the public and common areas is LED and are on motion sensors, so no power is wasted when there is no need for lights to be on.

HEATING OF BUILDING

We use Geothermal underfloor heating.

HEATING OF WATER

To reduce the amount of water used, shower heads are replaced with slow flow shower heads as they need replaced. Smaller cistern capacities are also being utilised.

The swimming pool and hot tubs are all geothermally heated.

We utilise a certified ‘re-injection bore’ for our used geothermal water, to ensure the longevity of the resource.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE

Regular maintenance checks on all building are carried out to ensure efficiency and safety standards are upheld.

WASTE DISPOSAL / RECYCLING

Paper, plastics, and glass are recycled. We also work closely with Enviro Waste who specialises in environmental solutions and finding new ways to recycle waste.

Guests are encouraged to save their used coffee pods so we can recycle these through the Nespresso sustainable coffee recycling programme.

Garden waste, leaves and grass is used where possible to create compost.

CONSUMABLES

Where possible we use local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint. Our shampoo, conditioner and body wash are in refillable dispensers and other bathroom consumables are packaged in biodegradable packaging.

Guests are given the option to not have their room serviced and towels changed daily.

OFFICE

All printers have been set to double sided printing and greyscale printing as default.

Recycled paper used for note paper, internal printing and where appropriate.

Sleep mode is installed on all computers along with LCD screen monitors.

Staff are fully trained in energy saving practices (turning off lights and equipment where necessary).

Offering employment to local residents when possible.

Commitment from staff to follow all environmental initiatives in place.
